Houston METRO Light Rail System

Supported Houston METRO for nearly 3 decades with various transit and rail initiatives and projects. Provided systems engineering and Project Management support to METRO for their 7.5-mile starter Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, known as the Red Line. This system includes approximately 6.0 miles of embedded track, 1.5 miles of concrete tie-and-ballast track, a new maintenance facility, and 16 passenger stations, and services the downtown Houston and the Reliant stadium areas. The Red Line uses 18 LRVs procured from Siemens (their S70) to service passengers. LTK supported traction power, OCS, signals, communications, vehicle design and procurement and corrosion control.

Provided vehicle procurement support related to METRO’s purchase of 19 Siemens Ultra-Short S70 LRVs to supplement their existing fleet. Investigated options, prepared the option order technical specification, interfaced with the FTA to obtain permission for the option procurement, supported METRO during negotiations, and provided commissioning support.
